What is the “dasher” on an electric trolley car?

I believe it’s the outer shell of the car that sort of “wraps around” the car, but I’m not completely certain. None of the online dictionaries has a definition in that context. I’d appreciate a reference.

    I originally thought it was a name for the electrical pick up but references below seem to associate the term with the front panel that surrounds the usual single headlight.
