We’ve built a car and were instructed to make modifications to it. We replaced all wheels with CD’s and also replaced the string with a series of rubber bands sowed together.

So, rubber bands as string: What are the advantages and disadvantages? For both speed and distance? (n. that the rubber bands were stretched somewhat when we were wrapping them around the axle)

I actually also want to ask about he CD wheels. Same question as for rubber bands.

   Bomba

   The CD wheels will not give good starting traction without some treatment on the OD of the drive wheels.
   The rubber band provides an additional elastic energy source in tandem to the energy of the trap spring. Backwards wind the drive shaft so the rubber band is taught. Then continue to wind to stretch the band and allow it to pull up the trap bar to the starting position.
