Hi today i got home about an hour ago very nice people from next door breaking the news that my cat got hit by a car, they wrapped my cat(Name: Minou) http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/ww344/ernieballplayer23/n1273069610_30100655_2961.jpg i would of givin’ my life for him…. one of the reasons i decided to post even when im in tears is that i live near a road thats a hill, there is no sign to slow down at all, i have seen cars speeding down the one way road, there are many children in my neighbor hood, and for a loss that feels like i lost my own son, i want to take action and force the town to enforcing the speed limit. can someone help me somehow so i can be at peace, thank you.

aw im so sorry to hear about your kitty!
reading this brought tears to me eyes, i absolutly love cats, and i love mine with all my heart. I lost a cat a couple years back due to someone hitting her, but sadly no one came to bring her to me…i found her on the road when i went to get the paper :’(

the only thing i think that you could prolly do is get a petition going && try to get as many people as you can to sign it then take that to the cops to show that you arent the only one that wants the speeding problem enforced, tell them that they need to do something before a child gets hit by a car due to the wrecklessness of other drivers!!

&& again, i am so so sorry about your kitty!!!!!

Bring it to a local newspaper and ask them to write an article maybe. Start a petition. You really need them to get a sign put up or something, because that’s really horrible. I hope you’re okay and that things will get better for you. You really had a beautiful kitty. I know I’d raise hell if this ever happened to my cat, so maybe that’s what you need to do.

I’m really sorry about you losing your cat. I know how painful that is.

And this might not be the best time to say this, but this is the reason I keep my cat indoors. This is just one of the many dangers facing outdoor kitties: speeding cars, dogs, coyotes, diseased cats, etc.

If you get another kitty (which I recommend when you feel up to it) I would keep it inside to increase his lifespan.

And I hate to break it to you, but the city isn’t going to care about your cat, as harsh as that sounds. I know you’re hurt and angry and want to do something. Maybe put up a little memorial where he was killed with a sign saying what happened and guilt the speeders into slowing down.

I looked at the photo and Minou was BEAUTIFUL. I’m very sorry for your loss.

If you want action to be taken, I have to agree with a previous poster in that it will be insanely difficult to get city government to be moved by a pet story. They feel like they have more “important” things to deal with.

Want to get crafty? Find a sympathetic neighbor with children. Say that they feel their children are in danger of these reckless speeders, that they feel like their kids can’t play outside because it’s too dangerous. If you’re really passionate and have a friend who’s willing to go it out with you, you can weave a story about how a kid nearly got hit by a car and that stop signals are absolutely necessary, in addition to the story about your cat. It’s dishonest but most likely to work with heartless bureaucrats.

Advice? If you’re in an area with fast drivers due to a lack of stop signs, you MUST keep your cats indoors. If you can’t stand it, save the money and build/buy a cat run. if you decide to get a cat in the future. My cats can get away with being outside because our area is on a corner bordered by a stop sign. We have one potentially dangerous strip of road in front of the house, but our cats don’t often cross it.

I would try to contact the city and even your local police department. They should be able to help you. I see these particular signs in a lot of neighborhoods “Children at Play” or “Deaf child in Area” etc. I know exactly how you feel about people speeding in residential areas. I live in a neighborhood where all the neighbors band together and we won’t tolerate speeders down our street. We let the speeder know that personally. We rarely have that problem any more. I’m sorry for your loss. Please keep kitty indoors to prevent this though.

I am so sorry to hear about Minou, such a hard thing to deal with. Dying of natural causes is bad enough. I know you would give your life for him. But I have to agree the best thing for him should have been a life indoors. As others have stated and I know it is too late for your baby there are too many things that can happen to a cat outside. You have learned a very hard lesson. City, town, state and etc. governments don’t care about pets being hit they do care about speeders. I don’t know what you can do except call and report speeders and keep calling. I wish you all the luck on helping the problem.

If you knew that people didn’t slow down on the dangerous road by your house – why on earth did you allow your cat to free roam????
