Im going down to southern CA from northern CA to go shooting with some of my buddies Its a shotgun and I want to know if I can transport it in the trunk of my car if its unloaded with a lock on the firearm it will probably just be wrapped in a gun wrap. (If I need a hard case I’ll get one)t Thanks for the help

Should be fine, but then Cali is a real gun hating state. Im not in Cali, but i can tell you what i do in Ohio, I put the weapon in the back seat, usually it is in a hard case but i am finding that i have more guns than hard cases so those that are not in cases are on safe with bolts open and weapons on safe and empty, weapons that dont have bolt locks i usually put a blaze orange chamber empty indicator, they are small and usually cheap a buck or two. ammo is kept in a separate portion of vehicle where the ammo cannot be reached from the placement of the weapon.

I was taught that the weapon has to be in plain sight and ammo in another portion of the car.

    Nick-

Being that I live here in the United Soviet Socialist Republik of Kalivorniastan, residing in the People’s Demokratik Republik of Zanta Klara Kounty, I would advise you to err on the side of caution.

Spend the money on a hard case. With a cable lock through the action and the ammo in a seperate container you will be just fine for your run down south.

Being an avid shooter and instructor, just err on the side of caution.

In my experience, and luck you would get the hot head rookie cop that thought he just caught the local gun-runner heading into Mexico, if you leave it out, or some red-neck that thinks the laws don’t apply to him. Not in a place you really want to be.

Sounds like your trip is going to be fun. Drive safely!

    Good Luck and Happy Shooting!

In all honesty I would ask you if you really even want ot visit Kalifornia? Businesses and individuals are leaving the area in a steady stream and you would be like a salmon swimming upstream and bucking the flow. Plus, with all the quake activity the possibility that the entire coast is going to drop off into the ocean makes it sort of a crapshoot.

Shotgun, unloaded in a locked case (hard or soft) and locked in trunk or not accessible to driver.
Trigger lock is a plus. Ammunition stored in a separate case, preferably locked.
