Hi everyone. I am looking for a pattern for an infant car seat. It goes underneath the baby, there are holes for the straps and it basically wraps the baby up for the cooler days. It’s basically a blanket, but made for a carseat. If you know of anything, please let me know… I would appreciate it!

    I couldn’t find anything …

You’re probably better off just taking the measurements yourself, using the car seat, as to where the holes are.

You should never add anything to a carseat that did not come in the box or directly from the manufacturer for that particular seat.

If you do, it puts the child at risk in an accident and it voids your warranty.

Stop looking! :) Its not safe to ever put any blanket between baby and the seat. You can cover baby up once he’s harnessed in, but never ever put anything between baby and harness other than regular clothing. This means do not put baby in the seat in a winter coat, either.

One of the big reasons is compression. In an accident, every layer the child wears, and the seat padding beneath him, will compress down. The car seat manufacturer allwoed for a minimal certain amount of compression and figured that into how thick their padding is. If you add any padding, it changes this. The harness will feel snug when you buckle it, but in an accident it will compress further (getting thinner) and the harness will get looser, meaning it can’t protect baby as well. Also, never use anything with ‘holes’ for the harness, unless it comes from the seat manufacturer for your specific model of seat. Otherwise it could interfere with the way the harness works. There’s been lots of times I’ve seen a baby in one of these and the holes on the blanket/outfit don’t quite line up with the actual harness slots on the seat. This is very dangerous.

Basically put: don’t ever add anything to a car seat that didn’t come out of the box with it.

If you need extra padding, get a different seat.

    If you need extra warmth:
    warm the car first
buckle baby in THEN put a blanket on him.
