Would that make the COT even safer yet? It may look funny but it could protect the tires in side impacts..

Something to protect the tires from getting cut would be a good safety measure. It would probably be a problem at pit stops, with an obstacle for the tire changers though.

Its a dangerous sport that needs to stay with the cost as DEATH. Or everyone will be able to drive a STOCK CAR

Strengthening the perimeter of the car would make it more dangerous for the drivers. The car is designed to crush from the perimeter inwards and get stronger as the damage gets to the drivers safety cage. The crushing of the body uses up lots of the energy in the crash so the driver (and more importantly his brain) are subjected to lower G-forces.

It would be way too much drag on the cars. It would slow them down a lot.

we would see longer pit stops
much harder to change the tire
the car actually would be more dangerous because it hinder the crush zones..
they all ready have the same material inside the car as the safer barrier does all ready

I see your point, but it would keep the car from crushing on itself when in a bad wreck. Would drag it down and slow them up. Also, in places where they go 3-4 wide, I’d think they would wreck more. They try to keep the car compact. Adding anything to the car like that, effects so many things. Pit times, speed, and can increase the chances for wrecks. Remember them trying to get use to the COT? That was wild/weird.

Like dogbert said. They only need something to protect the tires. Beth is right also. A car too stong is a safety hazard. It needs to be designed to absorb impact.
