Raul has been with me for several years now and, with a few exceptions, he has been quite reliable.

However, his license shows an anglo women in her, I would guess 80’s, so I am concerned about the athenticity of it. Under California law I am not permited to ask anything regarding his age, gender or nationality.

I simply fear my exposure if he wraps my car around a bus stop again.

You can require a valid DL as a condition of employment. If the picture is obviously not his, then it is not valid. You would not have to ask the age of the person.

I think it is time to let Raul go and hire someone with a proper DL

You may not be permitted to ask Raul his age, gender, or nationality; but, as the owner/lessee of the vehicle he is operating, you are under legal obligation by the State of California to require him to have a valid operator’s license and insurance.

I suggest you drive Raul to the nearest Department of Motor Vehicles agent, escort him to the department he needs to go to, and wait for him to get a valid license. Otherwise, I believe I would be looking for another driver.

You might want to check your automobile insurance policy for the extent of your liability when you allow an unlicensed driver to operate your vehicles.

Sounds like a standard high-quality drivers license photo to me — it’s probably Raul in the photo…
