I’m having myself fitted for a mouthpiece to use in mma. I’m gonna get it plain so I’d like to design it myself. Like maybe put a few words on it. How can that be done? Can I put stickers on it or should the words be printed onto the mouthpiece?

If you want it to look good and last, have your dentist or orthodontist order it with your design. It’s more expensive, but not that bad, honestly. I mean you’re already coughing up the $ for a custom piece, go ahead and shell out the extra few bucks – I’d mainly use the custom piece for events so it lasts longer, and train with a regular boil and bite type. I mean the custom one with a design in it is a vanity piece, really…

If you do it yourself, whatever you put on the plastic / silicon mouthpiece will probably rub off and end up in your mouth and throat. Decals, stickers, etc will all get rubbed off, and you can’t really print on it except with a permanent marker or paint. Those will rub off too. So you’ll have paint, marker or sticker pieces in your mouth when you’re trying to fight. Bad idea.

The guy who does a lot of the UFC guys. He has a website at fightdentist.com. He makes a custom mouth guard and will send you a form for you to put your design on. It’s expensive (about $200) but it’s probably the highest quality around and it will not be a graphic that will come off very easy. But at that price I’d order it and use a generic one for sparring and training and use the graphic for the fight.
